Introduction to the Farm

Over the past few years, we have transitioned my parent's old apple orchard into a beautiful green space for raising sheep. Our children started 4-H in 2020, and after buying a few sheep the first year we decided to start raising our own. We turned an old building into a beautiful little animal barn and fenced off a few different pastures. We finally had our first lambs on the farm this winter, three ewe lambs, and that has been such a fun experience for all of us. They are growing up quickly!

We start working with them at a pretty early age so they can be handled and get used to people. Showing sheep is quite the art of the showman, so it benefits the kids to be able to work with the sheep at a young age to learn to brace the animal for the judges.

It is also really important that they are conditioned all summer and ready for the county fair. We feed them individualized rations in separate pens based on their needs, but we let them all out together to allow them to run together and play. Their little hops are so fun to watch!
